Just One More Day

How come vacations never seem to last long enough.  I sure could have used one more day at home.  Unfortunately, deadlines are looming at work, and they don’t get met when I am not there.

Before I get into today’s post, remember that tomorrow is another Hot 100 update.  Can you believe we are down to the last month?  Whatever you do folks, don’t lose sight of your goals.  Keep working at them, and make it happen!

As I mentioned yesterday, I decided to fast today.  I ate my last bite yesterday just before 5:00 PM and then ate again today at 5:30 PM, so I fasted just over 24 hours.  What I had forgotten about was that today was the day I was to give blood.  To be honest, I was a little nervous about doing this while fasting, but fortunately there were no negative ramifications.   Once I got home I was happy to dig into a small pork chop, black-eyed peas, green peas, and turnip greens.  I finished this off with an apple and natural PB.  Mmmm!

Despite sleeping in a bit this morning, I did get up and walk.  I wanted to get at least three miles in, but I slept too late.  I really only had half an hour to walk, but I decided to forgo some of my leisure time this morning though and walked 2.5 miles, which took 40 minutes.  Boy was it COLD.  I was layered up good and warm though, but the wind was cutting right through my mask that I use to help keep me from breathing the cold air.  I may have to re-evaluate how I am doing this as the weather gets colder.  Unfortunately, there is rain in the forecast for much of the week.  I sure hope it holds off during the morning hours.

  2. Wow, Steve, giving blood and NOT eating afterwards – without keeling over!

You can probably be grateful this ONE time that your blood pressure is a little higher than you’d like it, I’m sure it helped carry you through the fast on a donation day. (Me, even WITH eating afterwards, I feel off-colour for 3-4 days post donation, thanks to the low BP.)

Everything for a purpose, eh? =)

I hadn’t thought of it that way, but you are probably right. Everything for a purpose . . .

  3. Man, I love Pippa’s perspective on things!

I have a lot of admiration for anyone who gets out and walks when it’s cold…and you pushed farther than you wanted to!

Btw – Thank you for giving blood!

Me too Josie – she often has good words of wisdom.

It wasn’t easy walking in the cold, but it was worth it.

I don’t mind giving blood at all. It doesn’t really hurt that bad and is a chance to slow down for a minute.

  4. Bravo for donating blood! That’s always one of my favorite charitable things to see people do :D

You’ll need to start running to beat the cold ;)

When you run, you feel 20 degrees warmer than the air temp!

Lori, if you remember, last time I donated it didn’t go so well. This time was much better.

There is that angel sitting on my shoulder talking about running again. :-)

  5. I can’t give blood and NOT eat… I’ll pass out. Hehe. That’s never good!

I wish weekends were a day longer. Can you please work on that? Thanks!! :)

Passing out is never good! I am glad I don’t have that problem.

Oh, and as far as the weekend go, I’ll get right on that. :-)

  7. Im still not a faster.
it doesnt cause you to think about eating MORE than you would otherwise?
I do once a year for religious reasons (and at night :) from 8p-6a) but thats it.

Does it cause me to eat more than normal for the one meal when I break the fast? YES
Does it cause me to eat more than I would all day had I not fasted? No, but I could if I wasn’t careful. I have to be sure and eat slow enough to sense true fullness or I could eat as much or more than I normally do. If I wait and break the fast the following morning, I don’t have that problem; I am just ready to eat when the evening arrives.

I agree, I just wish I had been able to do it the last couple of days. I finished the big project at work today though, so I should be able to get back on schedule, I am just not sure I can do it tomorrow. I need to catch up on my rest.

  9. I’d love to see a picture of you in your full get-up for when you go walking. I’m kinda picturing the kid from A Chrsitmas Carol…

I keep thinking about getting on eof those “Gators”, but I’m not too sure if I’d look like a mugger or not! :)

Sadly it wont fit me yet….but it is wind proof and water proof and has venting features….blah blah blah….
