  1. Good morning Steve!

I came to your sight first thing today (Monday morning) to get your weekly motivation. My daily dose of Steve did not disappoint. After I write this comment, I’ll be stepping on the scale for the first time since getting home last night to will face the music of my holiday eating. It was rocky in the beginning, as you know. But my blog friends, including you, helped pull me back from the dark side, and I salvaged the weekend without too much damage. I’m enthusiastic and ready to go today!

You’re so right…a month of overeating, (even a couple of weeks) can set us back tremendously, and with every set back comes despair that can lead to more overeating. I’m not doing that this year. Thanks for again giving me just what I needed, and in that GREAT southern accent!

Leslie, no matter what the scale says today, you cannot change that today. Just focus on fully getting back on track, and make the most of December. Let’s make sure neither one of us end up blowing a whole month over three holidays.

BTW, I am glad you like the videos!

  2. Hi Steve.

Right now I’m on a high because things are going right. I have every intention of making today a ‘good’ day and doing the same for every day I can, holiday or not.

The short-term ‘fun’ of this season’s moments of indulgence are just not worth it because the alternative isn’t nice to think about. I want to enjoy 2010 feeling great, not like a big fat failure (been there too many years in the past).

Thanks for all the motivation you give us all, and especially for the comments you leave for me to read. They are always much appreciated.

  3. Love this video this morning. I appreciate this take on our weight loss efforts. It’s just not worth it – all the short term pleasures.

Got a ? for you. I saw you do speaking. What will you speak about? You’ve done great so far but are you finished losing weight and what about the fact that you haven’t steadied out at your final weight yet? Or are you a motivational speaker – because you could be that. I’m curious because I’m in mktg.

    Thanks for the comment Matt.

I will send you an email regarding your questions about speaking.

  4. Great thoughts (as usual). I think that really thinking about our long term goals is super important all the time, but especially this time of year when it’s so easy to get off track and then be way behind later. Not to mention totally depressed!

    Have a good one Steve!

Thanks for the comment Diane. It kind of goes along with my upcoming Wednesday’s Word of the Day – almost like a bridge between this video and that one. :-)

  6. While I don’t feel like I completely lost it over the long weekend, I had already made up my mind that I would throw myself into being the best I can be between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanks for reminding me that’s exactly what I should do!

    South Beach Steve Reply:

    You can do it Helen!

That stinks Patsy! You need to get those replaced. I wish you lived next door – I have a set in my garage.

  9. Good motivation, Steve. I like your new blog as well. Very catchy!

I am grateful to be one of those who didn’t gain over Thanksgiving.

I remember about nine years ago losing six pounds over the month of December. A friend of mine and I were chatting in January and she was lamenting the gain she’d seen over the holidays and I was so proud that I’d lost something.

Now to do that again! We will do it! Have a good day!

    Thank you Leah.

You are a fortunate one. While I gained, I count myself fortunate for it being such a small amount.

I think making this December a great December is a fantastic idea. Six pounds would totally rock!

  10. Great motivation video Steve! I haven’t been around for the last few weeks, and this is the perfect motivation to get back on the bandwagon and keep my monthly loss goal despite the fact that Christmas is coming up! Thanks for the motivation!!

  12. This is just what I needed to steel my resolve after a few days of gluttony. There’s no reason I should let 3 days turn into 3 weeks… or more. Well said, as always!

    South Beach Steve Reply:

Kimberly, you can do this! There is no reason to lose the month of December.

  13. I haven’t been weighing myself in – mostly fear – I think …but I’ll take the challenge…I’m not sure I’m ready for this. :)

  14. Another great presentation Steve – with the right message. You’re right, the message applies to all of us but, the holiday which begins with Thanksgiving-never-stopping-until-the-new-year is, I think, a uniquely US phenomenon.

When the paradigm shift is away from ‘dieting’ and into lifestyle, then holidays become part of that shift and not so much a ‘diet trap’. This shift is, however, quite a challenge to make. It is about changing how we see ourselves. Perhaps it is our biggest struggle as we strive towards a healthier, more balanced and moderate life!

Have a great day — I hope the garage was finished before work rolled back at ya’!

Wendy, I think you bring up a great point. It is a US thing, although I suspect a lot of other countries begin having the Christmas treats around in just a couple of weeks. They don’t help either.

Great words of wisdom in your comment, as always.

  15. Great video, Steve. Here’s wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season!

“This isn’t a diet, it is your life!” So true! Love the new layout.

  16. Steve,
A great message to share – it can be all too easy to go from too much turkey right into a daily dose of too many Christmas cookies and more. I’m really focusing on keeping my veggie intake high – and supplementing with some sweet fruits (I’m loving pomegranate right now!). For me, the discipline I’m lacking is in regular strength workouts…and I’m re-energized after watching this -thanks!

    [Reply]

    South Beach Steve Reply:

Lance, I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I am solid as a rock on dieting, but struggling with exercise. Other times it is just the opposite. I am glad this re-energized you. Let’s both make December great!

  17. A wonderful message…always the right thing at the right time. I am going to apply this message as I approach my “year end” of this journey as well. Everything in moderation,

Thanks Steve – great job with these MotMon’s (Motivation Mondays)..I always look forward to them.

You’re looking amazing by the way! So proud of you! :) You are a fantastic inspiration of perseverance and motivation!!

Talk soon! Make it a great week!:)

Thank you so much for the compliment Joania! I really appreciate it. I cannot believe you are less than 30 days out from the end (well, not the end, but you know what I mean). You are really doing awesome during these last days!

MotMon – I wonder if that will stick?

  18. That is so true steve,we should never just give up,we make a mistake and eat bad, well just turn it around the next day.Ive done that so many times I cant count, you know eat bad and tell myself well you might as well give up,so I did.It is easy to do.Dont fret over your bp so much, give yourself a chance, sometimes we just want something so bad and we actually make ourself defeat what we are trying to conquer.Dont worry you will get there.

    [Reply]

    South Beach Steve Reply:

All to often, we let one slip up lead to totally blowing it. Like you, I have done that many times VAngel.

The BP seemed to be better yesterday. Perhaps it was sodium. Even if I have to go back on the higher medicine, it will all be okay. It just gives me something to strive for.

    South Beach Steve Reply:

For some reason the holiday treats don’t bother me too bad. I just make my stance on them known and no one even offers them to me.

  21. You just made my day! I actually lost 1 pound since last week and I really do not know how but…. It has me motivated and in high gear for Chrsitmas and to go at it head on.
I am one who has been struggling with the goals from the hot 100 but you know what I can still move toward them and get as far as possible.
Goals are always there unless we stop working on them all together.
    Your Awesome ;)
