Week Seventy-Three Weigh-In, Measurements, and Goals

Another lukewarm week on the weigh-in and measurement front.  I’ll have to repeat what I said last week though, I don’t think this is 100% representative of where I actually am this week.  While I didn’t blow it yesterday at the zoo, I did have food in my mouth most of the three hour drive home to help keep me awake (a little beef jerky and a lot of sunflower seeds).  I think all the salt in that could be playing havok with my weight and measurements, especially since this isn’t in line with most of the rest of the week.  Here goes:

Despite my gloomy intro, I did lose weight this week, but only a half a pound.  As I have said before, a loss is a loss.  My body fat was not such a good story as it rose 0.4%.  I am not sure what is up with that.  My BMI stayed the same.

Overall, the measurements were good this week.  I did have two go the wrong direction though: my chest and thighs each increased and eighth of an inch to 43.5″ and 22.625″ respectively.

My stomach decreased 3/8″ to 38.875″ and my waist went down a whopping 1.125″ to 36.75″.  The funny thing about this is I just made a comment to my wife on Friday that my new pants already feel a bit too big on me.  While they are still entirely wearable, I am fairly confident I could go down another size now.

My neck, calves, biceps, and forearms all stayed the same.

My goal for the upcoming week is more of the same.  I need to stay with the basics right now.  Weight loss portions and a respectable amount of exercise daily.  I am about ready to start back the weekly specific goals, but right now I need to be sure I am taking care of these basics.

  1. Your right Steve, a loss is a loss, you had a beautiful day for the zoo!

There have never been more true words Ron – in both cases. The weather yesterday was spectacular.

  2. After lots of jerky and sunflower seeds, you are most certainly retaining some water. If you lost weight even after that, you must’ve had a GREAT week!

Kimberly, I hope so. I am ready to quit blowing it on Saturdays so the truth is revealed on Sundays! :-)

  4. Fantastic Steve! I agree with Kimberly, sodium plays havoc with the bod & retaining water which might be the reason your body fat is up slightly. I bet all will be well as soon as you flush that stuff out of the bod! Sounds like you are moving in the right direction!

    CONGRATS!

  5. Gratz on that thrilling waist decrease. I wouldn’t sweat minor difference in body fat%. Doesn’t water water, etc, affect that? Re the sunflower seeds, I’m sure you know better than me that those little suckers pack calories, though if you extract them one at a time from their casings, not so bad I guess. Time to treat yourself to new pants!

Larkspur, thrilling is the right word – that was the victory of the week! And yes, water and other things (i.e., body waste, leftover food that hasn’t left the system, etc) can play a role in body fat percentage discrepancies.

I don’t know that I know anything better than you – you are right about the seeds though, they pack a caloric punch. It was worth it to help me stay awake though. I did have to extract each piece of meat from the shell though, so perhaps I burned a few calories. :-)

  6. The weight loss seems back on track Steve, and that is what you were wanting to achieve, so — Congrats!

I’m glad the zoo day was such a success (aside from drive home drowsiness which also causes me to eat more to stay alert too). I hope your wife also enjoyed the day and took time to care for herself.

Wendy, it is what I want, so all is good. Honestly, I would be very happy with an average of half a pound a week. That is about right for me right now.

The zoo was great, but my wife didn’t have the best day, as she had her grandmother on her mind.

  8. you have to remember too , you’ve done wonderfully and the more your fat % goes down, the longer your losses might take, the more tweeks you may have to make to keep the fast losing up.

    i know you’ll find you’re new stride!

Rachel, this is the hard truth. I sure wish it always came off fast, but it doesn’t, and that is a sign of success.

  9. Loss is a loss. I went to pick my daughter up today and while driving (Might be my imagination)I thought I noticed that my arms looked a little thinner. Maybe just wishful thinking but at least I am not thinking that they are getting bigger. What pant size are you now? I need to hurry up and get back to my 38′s so I have something to wear.

Barry, I suspect if you are telling a difference, others really could.

I am in size 34s now, although I think I could have worn 33s when I bought the last pair. I just wasn’t in 32s yet. I think I could get in 32s now, but I am not sure. It is time to at least try a pair on.

  10. Wonderful job on the weight loss! You have done really, really well. I know it slows down towards the end, but it will continue as long as you do what you know is right!

Thanks Diane. I appreciate the encouragement.

  11. Great waist inches loss! And as has been said earlier, if you managed to lose after snacking on salty stuff yesterday, it’s all good! :)

  12. Youre on track steve, try not to worry, you know it is going to be very slow from now on to reach that goal.Thats just science,we lose fast at first an then it slows to a turtle.Just look at it this way,the hardest part is over and you look great.

Thank you VAngel – while I do know it, I need a reminder every now and then.

  13. You are doing fine Steve – if you lost 1/2 a pound after eating beef jerky, that’s great! I would have had water bloat from the sodium LOL!

Turtle losses are still losses and you end up in the same place over time :D

Thanks for the reminder Lori – losses are still losses, which are much better than gains!

  14. I’m thrilled when I have a 1/2 lb weight loss, I go slowly. If I ate salty food, I would be up for sure. You probably lost more. How often do you do those measurements? I’m too lazy, though I think they did them for me at the gym when I started this exercise business a few years back.

I hope your grandma-in-law is doing better. It would never occur to me that fungal pneumonia existed. (Am I remembering right?) I’m glad to be healthy with a strong immune system (so far)

And hope you had fun at the zoo!

Julie, I am happy, I just know it could have/should have been more. Slow is good though.

I do measurements every Sunday. While it is a pain, it gives me a way to measure my progress consistently.

Grandma-in-law is doing better, although they still aren’t sure what is going on. Some tests are being done today. Hopefully tonight we will know more.

  16. YAY for the loss Steve! I was looking at some of your older videos today (which inspired me btw!) and the physical changes in your face are so amazing. I keep wondering what my face will look like without all this weight covering it up.

Thanks Josie! I need to go back and watch some of the old videos again. I don’t think I have rewatched any of them yet. This is a good enough reason to do so though.

I think you will be amazed at how you change as you lose weight Josie. I know I have been. I don’t look quite like I imagined I would. Not that I am drastically different, but I am shaped a little different than I expected.
