Update Six – The Hot 100

Here we are folks – time for another update on your progress with The Hot 100 – Going Out with a Bang! Six weeks have come and gone.  For those of us in the United States, we are entering one of those deadly dieting weeks – Thankgiving.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have been building up to this for a while.  I am ready for this, meaning, I am not going to eat like a starving glutton.  :-)

So, how are you doing with the challenge so far?  Are you one of those who isn’t doing as well as you would like to be doing?  Don’t let that get you down.  Every day is a new day.  Keep your goals in front of you, and make the most of it.  You can make today a great day.

Are you owning this challenge?  If so, let me hear about it.  That is some great motivational stuff!

As always, an update here on my blog isn’t necessary, but if you want to be sure I know about it, you should update here.  Be sure and visit some of the other Hotties out there and encourage them too.  This has been a great challenge so far, and a lot of you have really made a significant difference in your life.  That alone is great, but it is all the more greater if we bring some others along with us.  Go out there and encourage someone today.  Let them know they can do it.

  1. hey steve, I guess I’m lucky in a way, all my family is back east…so we only get one turkey day. I already know the menu….Thanksgiving isn’t really that big a deal. I am not a big sweets person…the only place I am really likely to do damage is with my world famous cheese ball. Luckily, it is universally loved and getting my hands on some could prove difficult. Have a great day.

Chris, even though all my family lives local, we are only having one Thanksgiving meal so far, although my mom keeps indicating she may step up to the plate and do one too. Either way, I think I am prepared to go in strong and eat with some sense.

  3. Hey Steve – I’ll post this evening on my blog with specifics. I am doing okay, although my weight is a pound over redline this morning. Seems like each week a different part of my goals takes the forefront, are you finding this as well?

I have to make sure that I remember that Thanksgiving is just one day, and that doesn’t mean eating all week in preparation for it! I do eat a lot on Thanksgiving, but I really enjoy it.

Lori, I tend to find the same thing. I always think it is my inability to concentrate on more than one thing at a time. :-) Perhaps there is more to it than that though.

Like you, I have to be incredibly mindful on Thanksgiving and be sure to eat sensibly. It is only one day.

  4. So far Steve, I am winning! My goal was from Halloween until New Years to lose weight. I had no candy for Halloween, lost 5 pounds that week. Had my first test yesterday, a big pot luck at work, and I did AWESOME! I waited until everyone had dished up, then took mostly veggies, 1 short rib, and salad. AND, no dessert!

I hope I can keep this going!

It’s a great challenge you have, but I think it can be done

Jenn, I am glad to hear you are doing so good. A victory at a pot luck meal is a victory indeed. Great job on that. I’ll have to try that strategy next time.

  5. I have really enjoyed this challenge not only because I am close to completing both my goals but also (and mostly) I have enjoyed it because in the past the end of the year has also marked the end of healthy lifestyle changes. Summer is always so easy with the farmers markets, nice weather and long days. When winter sets in I always tend to find myself more bear-like sleeping in and waking only to eat and put on pounds for spring thaw. This end of the year challenge has really pushed me to keep up with the goals. It was a great idea. Thanks Steve

RCA, that is two awesome reasons for enjoying the challenge. It is important for us to make this a lifelong change, which you are doing!

  6. I’ve posted on my blog yesterday.

We don’t have Thanksgiving but I look at Christmas that it’s just two days and I have the rest of December to make healthy choices.

Fran, thanks for the update. It is time to start looking ahead to Christmas and the plan to succeed. Keep up the great work!

  7. Steve, I was not “here” when you started this challenge so I have to go read about it BUT… I wrote about this over at Diane’s blog:

I was at an early turkey day thing last night & the only healthy thing there was the white meat turkey. There was not another thing I really wanted enough to eat. I ate the turkey & I had brought a couple other small things for myself cause I thought this might happen. People are fine with me doing this I guess cause they are used to me BUT I just don’t eat it because it is there. I help out & thank them for their efforts & I may take a bite of something that interests me but the holiday season is long & I can’t eat every time I am faced with it. I would be 7 pounds heavier come January if I did that!

This was in relation to one of her tips I have lived by for years… It is OK to say NO!

People usually are fine with the expectations we give them. If they know we are strong in our convictions, they stay out of the way.

It is OK to say NO – we all need to remember that.

  8. I know Thanksgiving is coming up and I intend to stay strong and not over-do it! This challenge has only been helping me stay focused.
    Go Hotties!

  9. Our Thanksgiving has been and gone and it was fine. I am not big on holidays, but I made a small turkey breast roast for me and my son with all the good things that go along with it. I made crustless pumpkin pie with sweetener and fat free evaporated milk and it was just as good as when I made it last year.

I am sure you will do well on Thanksgiving Steve.

I am still plugging away at my goals. I would like to have 10/10 for #1 and #2 for in the next ten days. My birthday falls during the next ten days as well and I am going to do my best to not focus on food! Wish me luck!

  10. I didn’t get in on the 100 challenge thing, but I am both looking forward to and dreading Thanksgiving. I”m looking forward to visiting my parents but dreading the urge to eat too much. Luckily, I’ve been doing so well the last 3 months that it’s gonna take a lot to get me derailed…I’m motivated to enjoy the dinner but not go overboard…esp on leftovers! Happy Thanksgiving to you and good luck on the challenge!!

Craig, that is a good way of putting it – looking forward to it and dreading it. I am going to enjoy myself, but I am going to try not to overindulge.

  11. Hi Steve,
I updated my blog with the challenge update. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. We are cooking and having family and friends over. My plan is to eat very cleanly between now and Thanksgiving and to enjoy the day without overindulging and feeling too full. And then back to super clean eating after. I am really looking forward to focusing on all there is to be grateful for. I hope you are having a great weekend!

Thanks Kat. It sounds like you have a good plan in mind. I may borrow it from you.

  12. Thanksgiving with my parents has always been difficult… and delicious. The biggest challenge for me has been the pie (mmm… pie…). My mother is a fabulous cooker of pies, and usually makes 2 each of 3 different kinds, even though there is never enough people to warrant 6 pies. So not only do you have pie for dessert on Thanksgiving, you also have a slice 2 or 3 times a day for the next three days. I’m working on convincing her that it’s better for everyone – herself included – if she make a third of that amount. Pie is my cryptonite.

I love pie too – it is the only dessert I really crave. Mmmm is right! I know what you mean about the leftovers. My mother-in-law usually cooks enough for a small army, and we end up overeating for days. Thankfully, she is not doing Thanksgiving dinner this year.

I just saw your update – thanks.

  13. Steve, I didn’t get a chance to get on my comp yesterday so I wasn’t aware that it was time for update. It is up on my site now though, a day late!

  14. Steve, all I can say is that I’ve been successful because of your support. Even those days/weeks when I don’t think I’ve done all that well, you ALWAYS leave me an encouraging word.

I’m like you, Steve, I’m already planning to not eat like a glutton on Thanksgiving. It doesn’t scare me and I’m looking forward to the meal, because I know I will be in control. :)
