Hot 100 Update!
Here we are folks at day forty of The Hot 100 – Going Out With a Bang! The crowd of updaters has thinned considerably, so that means the chances of you winning has increased considerably. Be sure you are posting your updates every ten days. As always, you don’t have to post an update here, but if you want to be sure I don’t miss it, you should do so.
Here is my update on my goals for The Hot 100 – Going Out With a Bang!:
- I will exercise a minimum of four days a week. - I have done this so far except for the week I was down and out with my foot. I need to check, I might have even gotten four days in that week.
- I will walk or run 200 miles before the end of the year. - I am at 81.6 right now, so I am on target.
- I will implement a new exercise (meaning one I have not done recently) into my routine weekly. - I have done well with this so far. I implemented Tabata Jacks.
I also had some other items I said I would work toward, but they aren’t really goals. Here are the updates for these items:
- I will make a concerted effort to improve my public speaking skills with the intent that I will find a way to begin doing paid public speaking on the side. - I have been working on this since joining Toastmasters.
- I will maintain control of my eating throughout the rest of the year. - I have not succeeded here overall. I Need to work harder at this.
- I will tone my body up so when I finally get rid of this layer of fat, I will have some muscle to show for it. - This is coming along nicely. I am slowly noticing muscles where I have never noticed muscles.
- I will continue to lose fat at a slow and steady pace. I want to be at 185 by the end of the year. While that is a measurable number, I don’t feel it is 100% within my control as I am getting so close to the goal that the weight should start really coming off slower. – I am not pleased with this. I am basically at the same weight I was forty days ago. When I said slow, I didn’t mean this slow.
- I want to start running, but I am not ready to commit to it yet. – I am going to do this, but because of my tendency to get bronchitis when I breath heavy in very cold air, I will probably not run until Spring. At that point I think I will schedule a 5k to push me into this.
Lastly, I have some hopes too:
- I hope that I am able to fully come of BP meds in November. It is looking good. - I was concerned about this a few weeks ago, but now I am wondering if it was my stress at work. My numbers have been a lot better lately. The average over the last ten days is 114/69 with a pulse of 65. Those numbers are low enough that my doctor may take me off the rest of my BP meds in just two short weeks.
- I hope that I am able to fully come of cholesterol meds in November. It is also looking good. - I am not sure about this yet. I will know in two weeks though.
- I hope my tendinitis heals up enough I can get back in the swing of the 100 push ups program. - This has not progressed as well as I had hoped, but it is better, and I have been doing more push ups. With my doctor’s agreement, I will begin doing the 100 Push Up program again after my physical.
There’s my update, now how are your goals coming along? Remember, it is not whether you hit every one, it is whether you keep on plugging away at it.

I’ll publish mine after I get done work on Sunday morning. Is that in time? Sorry this is short but off to work now. I’ll be back in the AM to comment more.

I agree VAngel. This is more in line with where it has been for the last six months or so.

Hi Steve, looks as though November is the month for coming off meds, congrats!
Have you thought about getting like a neck tube scarf to cover your mouth for when you run so you’re not breathing in freezing air? I have asthma so breathing in very cold air is problematic for me too and unless there is a very nasty bitterly cold wind about, I’ve found my tube scarf helpful. I can’t run in really bad heat either!

Louisa, I hope that is the case. I’ll know for sure in a couple of weeks.
I haven’t thought about a neck tube scarf, but I do wear something similar while walking: either a regular scarf or a hood that covers my mouth. It just prohibits the breathing a little bit, so I have thought I couldn’t run with it on, but you are making me question that. I need to give it a try. Thanks!

Seems to me you’re doing great on your goals.
I will publish mine later today but first I have to do a 6K run in 2 hours, wish me luck

Thank you Fran! I hope the 6k goes outstanding for you!

Based on your videos, I think you’re well on your way with the public speaking. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we see you on QVC promoting some motivational DVD…
Well done on your Hot 100!

Most of your goals are coming along nicely. Those that you are struggling with, I hope you can knock through them and start seeing some success.

Just posted my Hot 100 Goal update. http://robfitness.wordpress.com/2009/11/01/hot-100-goals-update-4/
It seems to be getting harder and harder working to make these goals work. You think it would be second nature by now.

You would think that, wouldn’t you? It doesn’t make sense, but it sure seems to go through spells where it is easier, but in just a split second, it becomes harder again.

It seems like your progressing a long at a good pace. I am sure November will be a great month for you and your goal accomplishment. Hopefully the loss of medication will be the greatest one of all. I know it’s something you are really looking forward to. Keep up the great start to your week as well.

That would be the greatest victory yet Rob. I sure hope I get to report this to you all in a few weeks.

I see that you have already been to my blog and caught my update.
A 5k race goal will be a good way to get yourself motivated to get running. I am planning to run some 5 k’s in the spring and my DD really wants to do a duathon with her. So the spring will bring lots of training for me.

Karyn, I believe that is what it will take for me to ever get going with the running. I work with several runners. I need to ask them to give me a list of local 5k races they are familiar with.

Hi Steve, I just posted my update. In spite of not losing any weight, I am please to be maintaining and looking forward to two stronger months ahead! It looks like you are doing really well against your goals, in spire of your foot!

Kat, sometimes it is good to know we maintained. I seem to be in that kind of a cycle right now too, although mine is going up and down. I am ready to knock it down a permanent notch or two.

Good luck with getting off the BP meds! Those look like some good numbers.

Overall I am doing okay, but the weight loss stall is killing me. It is time to get back on track with this.
I really appreciate the compliment Kimberly, but you have no reason to want to be me. You are an inspiration yourself. That was one of the reasons I originally started following your blog.

Leah, I think you had a great October, especially keeping on track with MIL there, but I am looking forward to the progress in November. You are doing great!

Thanks for all the updates! I’ve been updating mine regularly. I love the idea of scheduling a 5 k. I think we should get as many people ot commit to one as possible–maybe around the same time (in our respective areas, of course). What do you think?

I think you may be on to something with this one Beej. I wonder if there is a day in the spring that a lot of 5k races happen? I will look into this.
