Motivation for Monday/Contest Intro.

As I said in the video, Wednesday I am kicking off “The Hot 100 – Going Out With a Bang!” contest.  Here’s the information you need to know:

  1. You have to come up with some goals.
  2. You have to publish those goals.
  3. You have to give a status follow-up on those goals at least every ten days.

It is that easy folks.  I encourage you to also set some mini-goals along the way, perhaps as part of the updates.  That is one good way to break the goals down into manageable pieces and keep it right in front of you.  The contest ends the last day of 2009.  All those who have done these three simple things will be entered in a drawing to win a jar of AWESOME smoked, sweet* & sour, pickled jalapeños.  You have no idea how awesome these are!  You won’t find them anywhere but here.  This is a recipe my wife and I came up with, and everyone who has tried them is raving about them.  One pepper eating friend of mine said this is the best pepper product he has ever had.  If you don’t like jalapeños, that’s okay, this would make a great gift for someone else.

Now start working on your goals today.  A post with the title of the contest will be posted on my blog Wednesday.  Leave a comment on that post letting me know you are doing the contest.  I don’t want to miss out on someone.  Now, get out there and tell others about the contest so they can be preparing themselves.  This is all about making us all healthier, and ending 2009 with a bang!

One disclaimer, I am not really sure what is involved in sending a jar like this overseas, but I am going to do what I can to get it to the winner.  I want everyone to be eligible.  Just realize that if I find out I am going to run into some customs issues or outrageous shipping charges, we might have to find an alternative prize.

* The sweet in the sweet & sour is Splenda.

Mizfit, I hate it that you don’t appreciate a good, hot pepper. Of course, if we were all the same, life would be boring.

  2. I’ve been wondering what I can do to make the last 100 days of this year count… So I’m in! (I’ll donate the peppers to someone closer to you…)

    Thanks!

  3. That’s a great idea Steve! I can’t believe there are only a few more than 100 days left in 2009. Wow!

  4. 100 days left of the year!! That was an eye opener.

    Great idea and I’m in!

Will we be posting here to check in?

I loves me some peppers – bring on the heat!

It is an eye opener, isn’t it?

I am glad to read you are in. I’ll set up a post on Wednesday to kick it all off. Those who are in should comment on that post. I will also post reminders every 10 days. Those who are in should at least check in on the reminder post, although the formal, more detailed check in can be on their own blog.

  5. steve, are you in marketing? or possibly PR work?

what a fantastic concept! The Hot 100! SMOKIN’!

mizfit, when you smoke the peppers sometimes the spiciness is drastically reduced. i love pickled jalapenos since they arent so hot. so steve, do the peppers go mild when smoked?

    ps, im in *

    South Beach Steve Reply:

No Rachel, I am not in a career nearly that exciting. Thanks for the compliment though.

This is going to be a fun challenge, and the winner is really going to enjoy the prize.

The heat of these peppers is indeed reduced, but they still have a small kick to them. Some people won’t go for them, but if you like spicy at all, you will love them.

Glad to read you are in!

  6. This sounds great! However, I am working through a fear of weight lsos challenges, so I’m not sure I’ll join. Whether I join or not I will put this on my blog. I’ll let you know by Wednesday if I decide to do it.

    South Beach Steve Reply:

Leah, the good news is you can make this what you want it to be. I understand your reluctance, but the only person you are competing with is yourself. There doesn’t have to be a weight goal, something as simple as “I will exercise three days a week” will do. Think it over.

  7. Sounds like a great challenge!

Thank God! At a point in my life when I had lost my rerespect the heart and soul of the American People, I had given over to the idea that narcissism and petty greed had become the new American way. I found your blog! Thank you jesus. Now I know its true.

    [Reply]

    South Beach Steve Reply:

Praetorian, you will have to forgive me, as I am really tired tonight and perhaps not thinking totally right. I am taking your comment as a sarcastic dig at me. If that is how it is intended, I am not sure where this came from. If, on the other hand, you are stating just the opposite, and you are indicating that I have given you hope in American people again, then thank you, although I really don’t feel that is at all deserved either. I hope you come back and clarify your thoughts. Again, forgive my ignorance. Perhaps if I re-read this in the morning I will be more clear on what you are saying.

  16. I’m in. Posting my goals tonight after the Biggest Loser! :)

    Thanks for doing this,

  27. Steve,

Found this through the FabFatties site. I am in for the challenge. First goal is to run my first 5k. Signed up for it today. Will have to work on some others. Reaching my final goal weight is still doable this year so lets throw that into the mix as well.

    Any suggestions?

    [Reply]

    South Beach Steve Reply:

Rick, I think exercise goals are always good. Especially if there is some other exercise besides the 5k that you are wanting to begin or do better with. Committing to exercise a certain number of days a week, or an average number of days is also good. One of my favorites though is to say no to a trigger food (if you have one) for the rest of the year. I did not do that because I am not sure I can do without my trigger food (cereal) that long.

  28. I’m in!! What an awesome way to end the year.
