Hot 100 Update

Okay, I have made an executive decision on The Hot 100 – Going Out With a Bang! challenge.  Because I have had numerous people who have asked to join the challenge today, I am making a slight alteration to the challenge.  If you enter before 11:59 PM Central Time (UTC -5) Monday, September 28th you are eligible for the challenge.  Now, I also believe in being fair to those who entered by the end of the 23rd, as was originally stated.  So if someone wins who entered between the 24th and the 28th, then I will also give a jar of smoked, pickled jalapenos to the first person picked by random number generator who entered by the 23rd, meaning I will be out two jars of jalapenos.  If the first person drawn by random number was entered on the 23rd, they will get the only jar awarded.  I am not big on changing the rules after the competition has begun, but lets face it, this is all about getting healthier, right?  I think the compromise I have made is fair to all.  After the 28th, no new participants will be allowed.  If you are displeased with this, feel free to vent away in the comments, just realize the only person who is out anything here is me, so if I choose to give away a second jar, that is my prerogative.  Now, get out there and let others know about this so we can all make this a great last 100 99 days (and counting)!

Speaking of The Hot 100 – Going Out With a Bang!, my new blogging buddy Pippa over at Pippa’s Porch has designed a Hot 100 logo.  I’ve put the logo on this post, but head over and check out the Pippa’s post.

Exercise today was a repeat of the last two days – a very forced walk on the hotel treadmill.  I could only make myself do this for 2.5 miles today, which was a bit of a disappointment.  I did also do 3 60-second front planks and 2 60-second side planks on each side, as well as 30 push ups.

Breakfast was a Jazz Apple with natural PB.  Lunch was three roasted habaneros (my stomach is still hot!), and a Tex-Mex plate of chicken and veggies.  Supper was a plate of raw broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, and bell pepper.  I then had two Jazz Apples and natural PB.  Honestly, I ate too much PB.

Today concluded one of my extremely busy weeks between now and early November.  I still have to travel tomorrow, but the intense part of the week is past.  Next week is another one though.  I am heading to New Jersey  for a quick overnight trip.  I will spend a total of sixteen hours or so in travel plus a hotel stay for a total of four hours work.  Go figure!

Have you heard the prediction that Dementia cases are predicted to double in the next 20 years?  That is staggering to me.  Along those lines, how many of you have read or heard that some people call Alzheimer’s Disease Type 3 Diabetes?  That’s right.  The aforementioned article gives some pretty interesting details.

My goals for the week are as follows:

  • I will not overeat this week. - I don’t think today was overeating, but I did eat too much PB.
  • I will not eat cereal Monday-Saturday of this week. - No cereal.
  • I will not eat dried fruit this week. – No dried fruit.
  • I will only eat nuts or nut butters in combination with fruit, at most twice a day. - I did good according to the goal, but I had too much.
  • I will walk a total of 15 miles or more. - I am up to 10.5 miles.
  • I will do two days of push ups. - Three days done.
  • I will do two days of planks. - Two days done.
  • I will do two days of Tabata. - One done, one to go.
  • I will do a partial day fast at least one day this week. - Done.

Thanks Angie! I suspect it will irritate some people, but I thought it was the best way to handle it. I’ll have to be sure I think it out better next time.

  3. I think it’s great that you adapted. The whole goal of this challenge is to inspire people to be healthy. If that requires you to adjust the rules, that’s so worth it! I’m seriously loving the great reception this challenge is getting. Seriously!

Thanks for the compliment. I truly feel it is undeserved though. To me, you are much more of a steadfast rock in this battle. You are much appreciated.

  10. Great logo, I’ve copied it and will use it when I update on my blog about the hot 100.

You’ve asked me how I measured my fat and muscle %. Well my scale does that and it’s pretty accurate cause when I had it measured at my gym it was almost the same.

I am going to put it up on my blog this weekend too.

I use a Omron Body Fat Analyzer, but it only gives me body fat %

  14. I highly recommend the GoWear Fit, especially with the excercise youre doing! I find it super motivational. It’s also more price friendly for the upfront cost and the monthly subscription cost than the BodyBug and it’s made by the same folks!

    South Beach Steve Reply:

Thanks Scale Warfare. I keep thinking I would like to get one, but the cheapskate in me takes over. I didn’t realize it was made by the BodyBug folks, however, it is good to hear it is cheaper. BodyBug is expensive.

  15. I think I slid in under the wire, but either way I think its great you’re extending the deadline – in the true spirit of health and wtloss. Besides, its your challenge!

I am going to add a few more things to my goals (it was real late and I was tired and needed to get to bed). Will post on my blog tonight.

    LOVE the logo!

  18. Some Ideas For You… To Replace The Things You Don’t Want To Do This Week:

    # 1: For Breakfast, instead of the dreaded CEREAL… have canned pureed pumpkin sprinkled with stevia & cinnamon along with an egg or two!! I eat this every morning and it’s such a great filler-uper & energizer for the GYM!

    # 2: So you don’t over eat: Eat lots of protein from healthy sources like free-ranged red meats & poultry, eggs & loads of fatty fish!

    # 3: Instead of dried fruit have some cherry tomatoes &/or bell peppers – YUM!

    # 4: If you don’t like walking or are just bored with it, why not try, biking, stair walking, roller blading, etc…

    # 5: Nut butters are OK but really high calorie – ever tried Olive Tapenades? Now those are BOMB and they taste GREAT with raw veggies!

*GOOD LUCK!! You can do it!

    [Reply]

    South Beach Steve Reply:

GIGI, thanks for stopping by and dropping some ideas. #1 is something I will have to try. I feel like I already do #2, other than the fatty fish. I get tired of fish fast. Regarding #3, you would be hard pressed to find someone who eats more bell peppers than I do. Usually 2-3 a day during the harvest season. Tomatoes are an almost daily part of my diet too. They are a great alternative to fruit. As far as #4 goes, I love the walking, just not walking on a treadmill as I have to do sometimes when I travel. I couldn’t give up the walking at home; however, I do want to add biking into the routine sometime. #5 – I had not heard of Olive Tapenades. I am going to have to try this!

Thanks for the advice. I hope to see you around again soon.
