A Little R & R

Today I took a much needed day away from the office.  Unfortunately, we had somewhat of an urgent issue that I still had to take care of, but I only had to work 30 minutes or so.  While it has been a relaxing day, it has been a busy day.  It’s funny how busy can still be relaxing as long as the day-to-day grind changes up a bit.

I didn’t do formal exercise today as my foot is still not quite 100%.  It is close though.  I did do a lot in my garden though, which was quite a bit of walking.  Not enough to count for anything, but it kept me busy.

Eating has been a little tough today.  Days off really make me respect and admire those of you who work from home, are stay-at-home parents, or are currently unemployed.  It is harder for me to stay focused on eating good when I am at the house all day.  Breakfast this morning was an apple with three tablespoons of Super Pecan Butter and a cup of ff, plain yogurt with lemon Jello powder.  Lunch was two eggs, two lf turkey sausages, two tomatoes, and two peppers.  Supper was a piece of lean round steak, three roasted peppers, five cherry tomatoes, and a small serving of cole slaw.  I have not decided if I will have a mid-evening snack or not.  It is getting late, so probably not.

I ran across an interesting food comparison on portion size today.  It is truly amazing how this has changed over the years.  I, for one, am someone who feels I have to get my money’s worth.  This is a constant struggle for me.  I have to keep telling myself, “It is okay to put the fork down before you finish the meal.  Really, it is okay.”  Nonetheless, I still struggle with it.

  1. Hey Steve! Glad you got some rest, and were able to get some work done on your garden! Your portion size find reminded me of another blog post I was going to reference in my blog:

Looks like they share some of the same pictures. Crazy! I know it’s portion control that I’ve always struggled with. I totally hear you with the whole “getting my money’s worth.”

Beej, they do use some of the same pictures, but I think I like the one you reference a little more. It includes salads and other foods too.

  2. I know what you mean regarding portion size. I’m amazed at people who can order a dish and only eat half. But it’s time for me to work on that issue…

Nino, it is crazy, isn’t it? My brother is the world’s worst about carrying around his “big gulp” all the time. I bet he consumes a couple of gallons of sugar laden soda daily.

  5. Steve, I have always struggled with when to quit eating. Sadly, when I was a kid, my parents would give all the left over food to me so they wouldnt have to throw it away.

Ron, I hear you on this. I was always the one that finished the food too. We sure don’t realize what we are doing to ourselves at that age (or, in my case, even into my 20′s and 30′s), so we?

  6. Hey, gardening is hard work… I totally consider it working out!

She-fit, you are right about that. It is work. Not like going to the gym or running, but it will give you a workout nonetheless.

  7. Portion size is something that i really have to focus on each day. I always thought if I was eating healthy it was Ok to not measure the portion, boy was I wrong and Paul let me know that as well. :-) Thanks for sharing that becasue it just keeps reminding me what I need to focus on daily.
Looks like your video was a huge sucess. It was pretty awesome man. hope your enjoying the bit of R & R. You know we all need that from time to time and with your foot feeling the way it is it’s even more important to rest it. By the way I do hope it feels better soon.
Have a great Veggie filled week-end…

Rob, I still struggle with this. I love to eat, and I have to consciously make myself keep the portions under control.

The video did seem to be a success. I can’t wait to do the next one.
