Wednesday’s Word of the Day – Change

Believe it or not, this is a new WWotD video!  Don’t expect a typical SBS video though, this one is different.  More subdued, more introspective, more erratic than normal, yet the message is important.

Weigh-In and Measurements

My weekly weigh-in and measurements sure didn’t go as expected.  I had such a great start to the week, but I blew it at the end.  As has happened in the past, the late mess up made me pay at the scale.  Here are the numbers:

I gained a whopping three pounds this week, which puts me at 197.5, 2.5 pounds above redline.  Body fat percentage remained static at 20.4%.  BMI increased by 0.4 to 28.3.  My chest increased by an inch to 44.625″.  My waist decreased by a quarter inch to 37.375″.  My thighs and calves each decreased by an eighth of an inch to 22.25″ and 16″ respectively.  My neck, stomach, biceps, and forearms did not change.  Their measurements are 16.75″, 40.375″, 13.125″ and 12″ respectively.

This afternoon I got ready to do my weekly videos, and to be honest, I didn’t feel like motivating, so there will be no new videos this week.  I hope to be back to making those next week.

Eating has been good today.  Joint flexibility routine and perhaps push ups start back tomorrow.

Is Spring Around the Corner?

Today was a much better day.  My wife and I went on a peaceful drive together through a nice wooded area, then I spent some time working in the garden, trying to prepare things for next year.  While it was still cool today, it was a good temperature for outside working.  Once it gets just a little warmer, I will be ready to move outside to do more of my exercise.

I wish I could say I did good on eating, but I overate today.  Again, not bad, but not weight loss portions for sure.  I don’t have an excuse, instead I just mindlessly put food in my mouth.  Well, that isn’t exactly true, I knew what I was doing, but I still did it.

Even though I have a busy week of catch-up work ahead of me, I am still planning on starting back working out on Monday.  It is time.

I have a backlog of interesting articles I have run across lately, so I will try to start sharing them again on a daily basis.  This one, in particular, caught my eye.  Apparently dolphins have a form of adult onset diabetes, but they have the ability to turn the diabetes on or off, depending on whether there is a shortage of food or not.

One other interesting link tells five reasons you may be overeating.

Thank You All

While I already said thanks to all of you, I feel I owe a little more.  You all have really been great throughout this last few weeks.  The prayers, thoughts, and comments have be uplifting to read.  I have always been one who felt I didn’t need that from others, but these last few weeks have really opened my eyes to how valuable this really is.  Again, I really, really thank you all.

You might wonder what spurred this comment tonight.  I really wasn’t planning on revisiting this again, but as I read the comments left on my blog I realized I was not the only one who has faced this kind of situation over the last month.  It appears that at least four others have:  Rob lost his mother on January 26th, Josie lost her uncle on the 14th, Beej lost his uncle on the 24th, and Karyn lost her dad on the 17th.  Part of me feels bad because I wasn’t there for each one when they needed the uplifting the most, and a part of me just hurts for them.  Let’s hope this is all the death this circle of bloggers has for a while.  If you haven’t visited each of these three blogs yet and left an uplifting comment, please go do so now.  I know they would all appreciate it.

I haven’t done so well with my eating today.  Not bad, but not good either.  I have had a great week overall though, so perhaps this tiny blip won’t cause too much harm.

One interesting thing I have noticed is that since I have stopped the joint flexibility routine, my tennis elbow has started hurting again, as has one of my shoulders.  Coincidental?  Perhaps, but it is selling me on the value of this routine.  Now time to start back up and help the pain.

The Perfect Ten – Week Eight

Once again, I am not going to provide a detailed update.  By this time next week the blog will be in full swing again though.  That doesn’t let all of you off the hook though!  :-)   Be sure you are doing your updates and posting a comment on this post.  I would ask that you all do me a favor and visit one or two of your counterparts and encourage them along the way.  I am still not to the point I am visiting blogs yet, but that doesn’t mean someone out there doesn’t need some encouragement.

On the Way Home

Fortunately, the trip this week has ended a little earlier than expected.  My son and I are on our way back home now.  His long-distance girlfriend lives between where we live and where I was working this week, so we have stopped off to see her on the way home.  I thought it was a good time to catch up with a blog post as they visited for a bit.

It really has been a good few days.  I am not sure my son needed the time together as much as I did.  Dad’s death has helped me to realize I need to spend as much time as I can with my boys, something I have always tried to do, but like many things, I haven’t done as well as I would like.

My wife and I were both talking earlier how we have both felt so drained since Dad died.  I am supposing that part of it is the extra activities that we had to do during that time, but I think part of it is the emotional strain and stress that accompanied it too.  Honestly, this is the first day where I have felt like I had a more normal energy level.  I probably should have exercised today, but I slept too late to get that in.  I am going to take the next couple of days off, so that will give me a good chance to get back in the swing of things tomorrow.

I hope all is going well with all of you.  I haven’t really read any blogs the last couple of weeks, but that is something I hope to catch up on more this week.  If there is anything big I missed, you may need to send me a private message so I don’t overlook it.

I’ll leave you with a good link tonight.  It seems researchers have provided some validation to the long-held theory that optimism is good for you.  According to the article, optimists are less likely to get heart disease.  If this holds true, it is one thing that is working in my favor.  :-)
