Okay, so it wasn’t really a total disaster, but I am not pleased with my actions at all. So here’s the deal, tonight we had a fall festival/costume party at church. As part of this, the guys always have a chili cookoff. Knowing that chili is a food I can easily overeat on, I went into this telling myself to be strong, and I felt strong. I got there, and I still felt strong, then I started eating the chili. Three bowls later I was done. While it isn’t as bad as it sounds (the bowls were small), it was still THREE BOWLS! Not only that, but two of them had a hot dog in the bowl! Beating head against the desk in utter frustration! To make matters worse, I didn’t win the chili cookoff.
We did have a good time though, and we tightened some relationships, which is always a good thing. Breakfast and lunch were much better meals, but I am not even going to get into them since I blew it on supper.
I am pleased to report that I walked five miles again today. In full disclosure though, I sure didn’t want to walk a single mile. I struggled bad with this. I did it though, and that is what counts. I am thankful that tomorrow is my day off though. I’ve got to give some thought to my exercise program. I had a goal to hit 750 miles before the end of the year. While it is still doable, it is going to be tough, and it really doesn’t allow any room for error. Basically, I need to walk four miles a day, five days a week. I can certainly do this, but it will probably dip into the time I usually devote to other exercises. I am trying to determine my level of commitment right now.
It’s been a long day, so that is all for the night. Make it a great day folks.
Edit: One last thing, don’t forget to be asking your questions. Next Thursday is Q&A Thursday. You ask, and I’ll tell, so ask away!
It’s Friday! Do you know what that means? Friday Blog Spotlight! As has been the practice for the last several weeks, the spotlighted blog is the one belonging to the person who commented the most here during the last week. Beej took first place again, but since he has already been featured, I went down to the second place spot, which was a tie. The first one to show up on the list was Josie over at 35 and Shrinking. Josie is a recent addition to the blogging scene, but she has really put together an interesting blog so far. That is pretty evident in the comments. It took me months to ever get as many followers as Josie already has. For some reason I really feel like Josie is putting together a story that is going to inspire some people. Be sure you check her blog out, again it is 35 and Shrinking. Be sure and leave her a comment, and let her know South Beach Steve sent you!
I really wasn’t in the mood to do my full exercise this morning, so I decided to take a longer than normal walk. I was actually expecting to have to do this in the rain, but fortunately, the rain had not moved in yet. It was terribly windy though. I put in five miles this morning at about a 16 minute pace. After I got back I did do 30 push ups, but no planks or Tabata. Speaking of Tabata, the backs of my thighs are still sore from the last Tabata session.
That is a good thing.
Eating has been pretty good today, although I am fighting the desire to eat right now. Breakfast and lunch were both weight loss portions, whereas supper was once again not so much that way. Breakfast was the typical apple with natural PB. Lunch was the rest of the leftover homemade sour kraut and sausages with a smoked habanero mixed in. I also had several pickled serrano peppers. Supper was whole grain noodles, cheese, tomato sauce, and meat. In case you are wondering, this was dangerously close to a real trigger food for me — Lasagna. I ate a little too much, but I did not stuff myself. I really wanted to not eat it at all, but my wife made it for me knowing how much I like this kind of stuff. There was no way I could disappoint her and not eat it. I also had a salad with this. I then ate a sf fruit popsicle. I haven’t mentioned this the last few days, as it occured after I made my post for the night, but I have had a square of 85% chocolate with peanut butter before bed each night. Tonight will probably be no different.
Don’t forget, I need your questions. Next Thursday, November 5th is Q&A Thursday with South Beach Steve. You send the questions, and I will answer them. Submit any and all questions you have as a comment on a post between now and Thursday, or submit them to me privately via my Contact Page.
A few days ago I posted about doctors attitudes toward overweight patients, which happens to segway into the article I ran across tonight: Why Are Fat People Abused? As I was writing this, I initially thought to myself that I had not really been abused as a fat person, but that is not true. I was ridiculed much of my life over it. I learned to cope with that though, and usually joined in and poked fun of myself. What about you, have you experienced abuse? What about physical abuse like is discussed in the article?
Just a quick reminder, Sunday is the end of the next ten day period for the Hot 100. Be sure you are getting your updates in this weekend, if you haven’t already done so.
I think there was enough response yesterday to warrant a reader driven Q&A session next Thursday, October November 5th. All you have to do is ask the questions. My intent is to answer all questions submitted in next Thursday’s post. While I would love to say that no question is off limits, that wouldn’t be entirely true. I will answer most anything though. So ask away, either in the comments to one of the posts over the next week or you can submit the question privately through the Contact Me page.
Apparently I was not the only one with a Q&A in mind, Merry Mary is doing the same thing. Be sure and pop by her blog and ask her something.
Last night about an hour after I went to bed a very good friend called with a computer issue. His daughter’s assignment, which was due this morning, was stuck on a computer that wouldn’t boot. After trying to walk her through recovering it over the phone, I finally decided I would have to go over there to get the doc back. Needless to say, that caused me a much later night than I have had in a while. I was glad I could help though. It sure made getting up this morning tough though. I still awoke at 4:45 though and put in four miles in an hour and three minutes. I really need to put in four miles a day for the rest of the year to hit my New Year’s Day Decision that I would walk 750 miles this year. I really want to accomplish this, but it is going to be tough.
Eating has been good for the most part today. Breakfast and Lunch were both weight loss portions. Not so much for supper. Breakfast was an apple with natural PB. Lunch was leftover ham, green beans, and kidney beans. I also had a few serrano peppers. Supper was hog’s jowl (yeah, yeah, I know no one really eats this anymore.
), cabbage, and black-eyed peas. My wife must have though this was New Year’s Day all over again.
I have also had a sf popsicle, and I may eat a bowl of plain, ff yogurt with lemon Jello powder for a mid-evening snack. I am not sure yet though.
How about this bit of news from today’s headlines: Young Men Find “Normal” Women More Attractive. In short, the study found that “normal” sized women were more attractive to young men than underweight women. To quote the article, “The study found that girls with an average weight and build were ranked as being the most attractive and healthy.” I have said it on here before, and in fact replied with a similar comment on Patsy’s blog tonight, I find a curvy woman far more attractive than a size “0″. In fact, most super thin women are a visual turn off to me. Over the years I have decided that what I am seeing is the healthiness of the woman, not the size. I think healthy people are attractive, period. The odd thing about this is that my wife often wishes she was a “stick” (her words). I so hope that never happens. Don’t get me wrong, I will be happy with her either way, but one of the things that originally attracted me to her was her curves.
By the way, today’s exercise rocked! I woke up at 4:30, which is a little late to get the full workout in, but I did walk three miles, I did two sets of push ups, 30 and 60, for a grand total of 90, two 75-second front planks, and one 60-second side plank on each side, and Tabata Squats. Let me tell you something, for the first time in as long as I can remember, I was so weak after the squats that I had to sit down. I thought I couldn’t carry myself. In a weird way it felt great. Does a week off from the intense exercise weaken us/me that much? Tomorrow is just walking pending it is not storming in the morning.
Eating was more of the same. Breakfast and lunch were both good, although I am not sure either were weight loss portions. If so, just barely. Breakfast was two eggs and a big apple with natural PB. Lunch was about 3/4 of my typical lunch time serving of homemade sour kraut and sausages. Mid-afternoon snack was green peppers and serrano peppers. Supper was not weigh loss portions, but it was maintenance portions. I had ham, green beans, and kidney beans. I finished this off with sf chocolate pudding. I have also eaten several roasted chick peas this evening.
I am thinking of doing a Q&A post next week, perhaps Thursday. I am not sure if there is enough interest though. Don’t post your questions yet, but let me know, if I did a Q&A post made up entirely of your questions, do you have a question or questions you would like to ask? If there seems to be enough interest then I will put a call out for questions on Friday.
Last of all for this evening. I want to sincerely thank all of you who have diligently supported me in my quest to be the Good Mood Blogger, but alas there is not enough South Beach Steve fans out there to make it happen. Currently I am more than ten times short of the minimum number of votes needed to make it to stage two. It sounded like a great opportunity, but it apparently wasn’t meant to be. That being said, I’ll continue being a good mood blogger right here (that was never in question anyhow). I do have some changes coming soon though. I am not sure what all of them are yet, but I suspect you will begin to see them transpire by the end of November.
