Note: This was written on Tuesday, but I lost power right before I posted. I’ll update again later, but just know it is bad, really, really bad. My work has Internet though, so I may be able to update you periodically.
Well, was anticipated, the storm hit last night, and it was devastating. I am not sure how much ice we received, but it seems like a lot to me. My house is without power, so we are at my mother-in-law’s house, who has power and Internet. That alone is unbelievable. There is one local power company who states that the storm affected every one of their customers. Our yard looks like a war zone. We have a tremendous amount of branches that have fallen in our yard, on our house, and on our driveway. There does not appear to be any structural damage yet, but I didn’t get a great look at the outside of the house. We have a huge limb about 40 ft in the air dangling above our power line, which is not good. There is going to be a lot of work to do. Unfortunately, it is not over yet. It has been lightly raining most of the afternoon, but the temperature is falling and it is expected to turn to freezing rain, then snow. They are calling for another 3/4″ of ice and 3″ – 6″ of snow. I cannot imagine how much worse things can get. Almost every minute you can hear huge branches breaking out of the trees and falling to the ground.
There are few roads that are not blocked, including the Interstates and Parkways. Most of the emergency crews are saying that they cannot clear the debris fast enough. New debris is falling faster than they can clear it. Believe it or not, the roads are actually not that bad as far as being slick. I live relatively close to the Interstate, so I was able to get to work this morning. Getting home was much harder though. I do not think I will be able to make it in tomorrow. There are some areas the authorities are ticketing people if caught driving on the roads.
This morning, my wife and I tried to go for a walk. We probably walked a total of 1.6 miles, but we were convinced to turn around when branches started falling from trees all around us. At first we thought we would try to trudge on, but then a huge branch fell about 100 feet in front of us, so we turned around. I also did not do push ups, only because I forgot. I will try to do them tomorrow.
I have taken several pictures, but not enough. I am not on my computer tonight, so I will not be posting any pictures just yet. It may be a few days, but I will be sure and post them.
Dieting has went good overall today, although I ate too much at lunch. My South Beach Diet Meal Journal for the day is as follows:
- Breakfast – A cup of Uncle Sam cereal with a cup of skim milk.
- Mid-morning snack – One lf cheese stick.
- Lunch – A very large bowl of homemade vegetable beef soup.
- Mid-afternoon snack – An apple with two tablespoons of natural peanut butter.
- Supper – One small sirloin steak, two chicken tenders, and a large salad with Ranch Dressing.
- Mid-evening snack – Nothing.
- Miscellaneous – Two cups of coffee. I probably did not drink enough water today.
One problem I have become increasingly aware of lately is my crazy feeling that I have to finish a portion of leftovers if I feel it is going to go to waste. That is why my bowl of soup was so large today. I did not want to see the leftovers go to waste, so I ate too much of it to prevent that. Crazy, I know. I am really going to try to do better at this.
That is it for tonight. I am going to try and visit some blogs while I can, but I anticipate we will lose power soon. If you don’t hear from me for a few days, that is why. They are saying some of us will not have power for a week. I may be able to update my blog at work, but I try not to do this on their Internet.
