I was given the opportunity recently to review the EatSmart Precision Premium Digital Bathroom Scale, and let me tell you, I have been impressed!  Do you want to see why?  Check out my video review below:

*Note: The kind folks at EatSmart donated this scale to me for my review and use.  Even so, all comments in this post and the related video are mine alone, and were nothing short of honest.  If my opinion on the scale changes over time, you can rest assured that will be posted here as well.

Peaceful, Easy Feeling

I wonder how many of you go the song reference with the title?  I love the Eagles.

This won’t come as a surprise to some of you, but my life has become exceedingly more stressful over the last couple of years.  I had a bit of an eye-opening experience the other day when talking to a doctor at a wellness center, who after going over a long survey with me and running some tests told me, “You are constantly in the fight or flight mode – your body doesn’t know how to get out of it now.”  To be honest, I took a little offense to that statement at first, but the more we talked, the more I realized that he was right on target.

I had already picked up on some of this myself, well really thanks to my wife, and I have taken up photography again as a relaxing hobby.  We interrupt this blog post for a little shameless self promotion — if you haven’t checked out my Facebook photography page, go do that now.  If you like what you see, “Like” the page.  This is the end of the shameless self promotion.  So the last two nights I have had a great opportunity to spend some relaxing time watching American White Pelicans at one of our local dams (Barkely Dam).  This has been so very relaxing: hearing the rushing of the water of the dam, listening to the birds, hearing the wind whip through the trees.  All I can say is truly amazing!

I thought I would share a couple of the pictures I have taken there with you guys:

And what about this little creature my son caught last night???  Yes, it was alive, and moments later it flew away.  I know the question is going to come up, so I’ll go ahead and answer it: he hit it with the car while driving down the road and went back to check it out.  When he saw what it was, he carefully bagged it up and brought it home.  After it regained its senses it was able to fly off again.

So the real point of this post was not the pictures, but destressing.  You know, one deterrent for weight loss is stress, and truly if we are going to be healthy all around, we sure don’t need it in our lives ALL.THE.TIME.  Right?

Where I Have Been

So, you might be wondering what is going on with Steve.  Or, maybe not.  :-)  I have been meaning to get on here and put a post up, life has just been busy.  I thought the best way to share part of what is keeping me busy would simply be to refer you to a better written post than I could do.  Just head on over to Pippa’s Porch.  Pip and I both started this photography challenge earlier this year, and if you are interested you can see my pictures at http://365project.org/aineo/365.  You could also see them and subscribe to my page at https://www.facebook.com/365daysofme.  Here is one of my favorites for your viewing pleasure:

On the weight loss front things have been going exceedingly well.  I am down 10 pounds now, and I am exercising again.  All is well, right?  Yep!  I lost a lot of ground on my weight and fitness over the last year, but the tide has turned!

Loving the Colors of Fall

One of the reasons I have loved the fall season much of my life is the colors that we begin to see.  Spring offers this same opportunity, but for some reason the fall colors seem more spectacular to me, especially during the especially spectacular transitions from summer to winter.  This year, unfortunately, is not one of those especially spectacular transitions, but that doesn’t mean there are some gems out there.  I caught the following sight out of the corner of my eye as I drove into our office park yesterday:

It really was a dreary day, but you can’t hardly tell it from looking at this photo, which is my point exactly.  Doesn’t this make you just want to go sit on the benches and soak in the sights?  With work being especially busy right now, I haven’t had a chance to do so, and honestly, it would have been a bit cool yesterday, but it still looks appealing.

Sadly, some of the more beautiful fall trees are changing colors and dropping their leaves immediately this year, which leaves very little time to enjoy their fine presentation of colors.

While this week has been BUSY, it has been spot on with regards to exercise and diet.  I feel a bit like I am reliving an energy I haven’t felt in 18 months.  Woot!

Pics of Lee

Hurricane Lee is dissipating across the middle of the United States, which always creates a great opportunity for some fantastic cloud/sunset shots.  Today was no disappointment either.

I thought the pink clouds, the blue sky, and the moon made for great shot.  Too bad it is a bit grainy.

My youngest son, who happens to have the most artistic eye in the family, says he loves this shot with the trees in the foreground and the bright clouds in the background.

I think this one looks far better if you click on it for the larger image.  As I was taking this, I kept thinking a good title would be “Pink Meets Blue”.  Now I think it sounds kindof dorky.  :-)   It was incredible seeing the drastic difference in these two clouds though.

Another example of the different colored clouds.

This is what most of the sky looked like.

I absolutely love hurricane shots.  In fact, I had forgotten how much I liked these shots.  Lately I have been realizing how much I miss taking photos regularly.

Addressing Comments and a Pic

My post yesterday brought a few comments which I want to address here.  First off, Debbi asked if I really NEED to be working so much.  The truth of the matter is that when I am in the office I don’t work really, really long hours.  Do I work more than 40 hours a week when I am in the office?  Sometimes, but often not.  I do, however, run a small business on the side, which means I put in hours away from the office.  The long hours I work typically come when I am traveling.  To leave out of my local airport I have to leave my house at 4:15 AM.  I still usually put a full day in at the office wherever I am working – sometimes more.  My philosophy has always been to put in the long hours when I am away from home so I can work 40 hour weeks when I am home.  Even so, last week was an exceptionally long week.  I started the week very early on Monday, worked long hours each day, and didn’t get home until the very early hours on Saturday.  That is truly an outlier.  Even though I work a lot when I travel, last week was a real doozie.  This week, as I said earlier in the week, is essentially a repeat of last week.  The BIG difference is that I will get home at about 2:30 PM on Friday, after which I will swing by the office for a minute, and then head home for a long weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, next Tuesday is my wife’s birthday.  I am thinking about taking off that day, but I am not sure yet.

Dawn and Kimberley both made comments that almost made me feel as if I was being pat on the back for juggling the very busy work schedule as of late and exercise.  While I appreciate the comments, I really don’t deserve any compliments.  I struggle to fit in any exercise, and when I do it is not as much as it should be.  Although I do realize that any step in the right direction is just that, I don’t want anyone to look at me as the example right now.  I am far from that.  (My apologies to Dawn and Kimberley if I misread their comments)  I look at some of the superstars in this whole weight loss and fitness arena and am truly in awe.  I only hope to achieve some of what the rest of you have done.  Right now I am just focusing on keeping this momentum I have had lately going.  I can’t let this stop – it has to become a habit again.

Now back to the regularly scheduled message.  :-)   Go ahead and mark today up as another success.  That being said, I didn’t exercise as much as I wanted to exercise.  My mind kept saying yes, but my body kept saying no.  :-)   Even so, I did two sets of push ups, one set of front and side planks, two sets of curls, and one other arm exercise with the Gym-in-a-Bag for which I can’t remember the name.  It was another IF day that ended with a plate full of Blazin’ Wings.  This is eight days in a row, which is no great feat, but it sure feels good.

Oh, I forgot one thing – look at my excitement for the day:

You should be able to click on this and get a bigger image.  This is a brush fire near (or maybe in) Oklahoma City, OK.  Notice the bright light.  I am supposing a transformer blew just as I snapped the picture.
